i usually strength train but i wonder if pilates would get me results faster because i want to tone and define my muscles. do you think it would be better?

the thing with strength training is it generally targets the really big muscle groups all the time which obviously is great because you want to work those things but what i love about pilates is how it digs into the smaller/less focused on muscles which support the bigger muscles and the classes will def kick your ass if you're paying attention to form and pacing but unfortunately i think most people who have really long lean-looking muscles with modelesque tone/definition are just genetically blessed. i think there's also a lot of info out there on doing low rep/high weight strength training vs high rep/low weight strength training which can achieve similar effects to pilates without having to pay $35 per class. i've definitely seen a lot of change in my own body composition doing pilates regularly but i also am a healthy eater and mix in a lot of cardio along with it but tbh i prefer pilates because it's v fun to me and i never skip classes bc i actually enjoy them so i stick with it more because i can rely on myself to be consistent with it

you are an angel yeah i don't have classes near by but i downloaded an app to help me target those tiny muscles but i am with you. i love cardio and go fir long runs but i cannot do just that even if i want to. i am assuming yours is a reformer class

there are a lot of online classes i've heard great things about like people love the b method and a few others, and i have also seen some really interesting at home pilates workouts on tiktok too just by clicking around and seeing who is popular. my classes are reformer and i love them so much and i am always so sore i can't move for 2 days afterwards. mat pilates doesn't hit the same way for me (it reminds me too much of barre which i hated) but they have really simple at home reformers you can get for under $200. i saw julia fox uses one i think which is so random but you can also mimic reformer movements with those little discs that slide across carpet so there are ways to diy it at home for less $$ than a class subscription

yes i have those sliders from bala and love so much especially for mountain climbers and strengthen my lower back so ty i didn't put two and two together about mimicking moves but you def can! wow i am jealous but you did just remind me that i have unused health money spending from my job to get a cheaper reformer. thank you for your advice anon! i am going to go fall down a tiktok hole
